NEW Los Angeles Area Office
DTR Consulting Services has recently established a new Los Angeles Area Office to better serve our A/E Clients in the Southern California area.
Overseeing this new office is the Firm’s Managing Principal, Thomas Berger, CSI, CDT, SCIP. In addition to running the Sacramento Area Office, he is overseeing the start-up and oversight of this new office. DTR Consulting Services has been working with Architectural Clients in the Los Angeles and San Diego Area for years. This expansion allows DTR to build on our current client base and to expand our Firm to better serve our current and future A/E Clients.
Tom will also be responsible to recruit the best new staff, the area has available. He will be in charge coaching new staff members into the existing DTR Culture and provide training for both experienced and junior members in the DTR approach to serving our clients.
Tom joined our team in 2002, as a Senior Specification Writer/ Quality Control person. He has over 29 years Architectural & Construction experience. He has worked with several national A/E Firms including running a very profitable office in Northern California for his previous employer. Tom has also been a very successful CSI Certification Chair for the Sacramento Chapter, teaching courses in Construction Document Technologist (CDT) with 100% pass rate over the last 3 years. He has also taught courses in "Architectural Studies" including AutoCad.

Who are we...
At DTR Consulting Services we have reinvented the concept of the Senior Project Architect/ Engineer/ Contractor and extracted those skills into am outside consulting firm that works like an extension of your current firm.
Unlike the traditional in-house specification writer, project architect or construction manager, we work on more than 30 projects a year at a construction costs of near a $1B dollars. Our staff gain the knowledge and experience in one year that a staff architect would gain to over a six to eight year period. Combine that with the resources and reference material we have from national licensed venues, hundreds of manufacturer’s representatives, thousands of manfacturers manuals, LEED documents and the experience we gain from working with hundreds of project architects/ engineers, designers, consultants, cost estimators, geotechnical engineers, attorneys, building owners, contractors, printers, etc
Over the last few years we have seen many changes in our industry from reduced staff, more competitive RFP's, lengthier selection process, reduced professional fees and advancing technology. With those changes we see people in many firms working longer hours for less pay. Firms in general are accepting more liability for less reward just to stay in business.
In Partnership with our firm, you can separate yourself from your competitors by using some our credentials, project type experience to lift your team's overall expertise on their specific project type, improving your chances of being short listed and awarded the project. Our staff is available to join your team as needed in the interview process. Market our expertise, utilizing our technical services including our Quality Control services. Market your Quality Control level of standards noting the interest you have in preserving Building Owners money. Savings in potential change orders and reduction of your firms needlessly wasted manpower will result in four to eight times the fees you will pay for these services.
Remember, contractors are also working on thin margins and are looking even more than ever to increase the contract sum. Limit multi-disciple coordination issues, missed or omitted directions, and other issues which generate additional RFI's, extended general conditions, supplemental drawings and change orders. All this frustrates your client and costs your firm money and tarnishes our reputation.
First get the Job, then please your client and still be profitable…
How are we Organized
We have created a services firm unique from all others. We are not the one person independent spec writer with limited resources or the mega construction management consultant hired by the building owner to oversee the design and construction document process that does not have your best interests at hand; rather we are a firm founded to be a true extension of your architectural office. We have a true interest in seeing you soar.
To borrow a line from our mission statement we “Utilize our knowledge and experience to bolster our client’s presentations and construction documents to increase their firm‘s value in the eyes of their clients and to limit all parties exposure to potential claims”.
We are structured in an open office Studio’s much the same way an Architectural Office is organized. We work openly and share information internally to improve our knowledge and reduce our duplication of efforts. We have a very organized way of compiling your project data related to project selection, project conditions, schedule, cost estimates, and more.
Recently we expanded this model to two locations. All project documents are uniformly shared between offices via modern technology and old fashion communications.
Where we're going
DTR has continued to grow, despite the poor economy focusing on each job and building our reputation with Architects, Engineers, Manufacturers, Contractors, Developers, Facility Staff and Building Owners. We have hired additional staff and opened an additional office. We have also expanded some of our services to continue to assist firms who still retain specific talent within, yet finds it economical to contract us to assist in developing the building envelope, develop waterproofing or roofing solutions, field survey existing facilities or review construction documents for constructability, develop door hardware for commercial buildings or correctional facilities.
Revit and Building Information Model (BIM) are becoming more widely used. Building specification links can be found in current technology and we are working with our clients to maximizing that potential.
Regardless what your needs, let us show you what we can do for you.
