Firm Introduction & Philosophy

DTR Consulting Services, a general partnership was originally founded as Design Technical Resource (DTR) Group in late 2002 with two business partners to provide quality technical resource services to Architectural/Engineering firms.

Later renamed, DTR Consulting Services opened its doors in March 2003 at 19th & T Street in Sacramento, California.  Within twelve months, the office relocated to Rocklin, closer to one of its largest clients, where we currently reside. Incorporated in 2005, DTR Consulting Services, Inc now consists of three principals and a full technical staff to provide the best technical services to our clients.

In February 2003, the founder Thomas Berger left a full-time position as the Senior Associate/Office Director with DLR Group of the Sacramento Office, after managing the office from an initial 4 employees to a staff of 26 in 2002, becoming the 4th most profitable office of nineteen offices nationally.  Observing that most all Northern California firms were struggling to find good senior architects, technical specification writers and seasoned construction administrators, Thomas set out to develop a business plan to create a new company aimed at providing technical services to area architectural and engineering firms.

Today the firm begins the year with four employees, three principals, two board members and three stockholders.  The firm remains committed to grow its client base and expand its staff with employees eager to grow with the company.  We have since provided services to over 30 architectural and engineering firms throughout the western United States.  Our projects have ranged from less than $100k to over $475M on a single project. Within the last 18 months, DTR Consulting Services has contracted work on over one hundred individual projects for a total combined construction cost of $1.6 billion dollars.

Professional Services

Today, DTR works with both Architects and Engineers in producing 3-part technical specifications for commercial, institutional, retail, health care, public use, corrections and educational construction type projects, as well as assisting with quality control services. Unlike many 3rd party (independent) spec writers, I have spent the majority of my career in A/E field and understand the importance of having a proactive consultant and the sensitivity of good design. We will work with your staff, consultants, construction managers, and others to coordinate all divisions of the technical sections and Division 01 General Requirements, including special LEED language for accredited projects.  Our Project Manuals are comprehensive, complete with current industry standard references, and visually stand apart from our competition.

Our Quality Control services are tailored to work as an extension to your senior staff.  Our "Complete Check" plan check services can be molded to help your senior staff fine tune your documents while allowing your Project Managers to interface with their clients.  Our success starts with our philosophy to work with your project team, as a team, to refine you documents significantly reducing RFI's and potential change orders.  Our reports are structured to minimize the time value information gets to your project team.
